Mobile Phone use at Meadow Vale ~ Important Information

Letter from our Headteacher about mobile phones and their use in school.

March 2013:

Dear Parents/Carers
As part of our regular review of the Safeguarding of Children Policy, the following
recommendations have been agreed and will be implemented immediately.

Pupil Mobile Phones
Following completion of a ‘mobile phone request form’ pupils in YEAR 6 ONLY may bring
a mobile phone to school. The phone must be turned off, handed to the classteacher at
the start of the day and collected at the end of the day. The school governors and staff
recognise that many Year 6 pupils are becoming independent in their travel to and from
school and wish to formally support parents in their children’s safeguarding. However,
mobile phones are NOT allowed at MVSA school discos as ALL children attending these
events should be escorted to and from school by an appropriate adult.

Mobile Phone & Cameras at Class Assemblies, School Productions and School Sports Events
At the above school events Parents/Carers are permitted to use mobile phones/cameras
to take pictures of their OWN child/children. However, should any images of children
other than their own appear on social networking sites, this privilege will be withdrawn.
We are not currently aware of this happening however, we felt that a reminder of
responsible use is appropriate at this time. The school governors and staff want all
parents to have the opportunity to record their child’s journey through primary school in
pictures and politely request that all parents follow the above advice.
Thank you in anticipation of your full support.

Yours sincerely

Nigel Duncan
