You Are Amazing Love Hearts Rainbow Badge : Kool Badges

Spring term 2024!

It has been lovely to welcome the children back to school after the winter break. We are really looking forward to the term ahead as we have lots of exciting learning activities planned.

This term, our history topics are 'Into The Trenches' and 'Behind Enemy Lines', where we will be exploring the main causes of WW1 and WW2, the countries and people involved and how it has shaped the world we know today.  We will also be visiting trenches at GHC in order to deepen our understanding of trench life. Using this knowledge, we will make our own model trench in DT this term and use it to help explain the features of a WW1 trench to others. In science, our topics are 'light' and 'electricity'. We will explore how light travels (including reflection and refraction), shadows and how they change, and we'll discuss careers connected to light. We will then investigate electricity - how components and voltage affect circuits and how static electricity is generated. In computing, we are using our coding skills to make things move, answer questions and eventually design our own game.  We will be indoors and outside for our PE lessons which will include: football, tag rugby, hockey, dance and gymnastics. In class, we are reading Once by Morris Gleitzman -  the story of a young Jewish boy who is determined to escape the orphanage he lives in to save his Jewish parents from the Nazis in the occupied Poland of the Second World War. As part of our guided reading, we will be accompanying Olive and Cliff as they are evacuated during WW2.
