Fundraising to support The British Legion

We have been fundraising to support the Binfield branch of The Royal British Legion, with a Danceathon...

Mrs Hatt organised a Danceathon in school this term; it was to support the Binfield Branch of the Royal British Legion who will be attending this year’s commemorations of World War I at the Great Pilgrimage 90 in Belgium this August. Many members of The Royal British Legion are to join thousands on a pilgrimage of remembrance to WWI battlefields which culminates in a parade and ceremony in Ypres, as part of these special celebrations. The Royal British Legion event, known as Great Pilgrimage 90 (GP90), takes place between the 5th and 9th of August 2018 and will be one of the largest in the charity’s history. GP90 will mark 90 years since the original Royal British Legion Pilgrimage in 1928, which saw 11,000 WWI veterans and war widows visit the battlefields of the Somme in France and Ypres in Belgium, a decade after the conflict ended.

On behalf of Meadow Vale, a wreath will be laid at the Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing, which is dedicated to the British and Commonwealth soldiers who were killed in the Ypres Salient of World War I and whose graves are unknown.

Well done and thank you to everyone who took part in the Danceathon and brought in sponsor money for this unique fundraising opportunity.  We are very proud to be represented at these important commemorations and look forward to hearing all about GP90 later in the year.
