Week 07 (week beginning 18th May)
Monday - Today you are going to create a 'mash-up' comic strip. Imagine a story in which 2 characters from different books meet and think about what could happen (for example: when Lord Voldemort meets the Gruffalo, or when Stig of the Dump meets the Christmasaurus). You can use the comic book templates below for inspiration of how to set it out or you can design your own from scratch. If you don't want to make a comic strip, writing the story out instead will be fine.
Tuesday - We are going to be thinking about inventions today, leading towards coming up with your very own invention. Use the table below (you can copy it into your book - don't worry about copying out the example row) to find out about 3 more important inventions. You could find out about the lightbulb, the Wright brothers' plane, or anything else! Here are a couple of links to help you get started:
Wednesday - Inventions come about to try and make our lives easier in some way. Today I would like you to start thinking about what your invention idea could be. To do this, you will need to think about/ask people how you could make their days easier. There are 4 example questions on a document below - can you add any of your own? Ask as many people as you can to get as many ideas as you can and then create a mind map/list of ideas about what you could design (there is an example on the question sheet).
Thursday - Today you are going to think about what your invention will be a draw your first draft. At this stage, you may have narrowed it down to a couple of ideas and it is OK to start sketching them both and see what works. Once you have sketched your initial idea, answer the following questions below:
1) How will this invention change people's lives or make them easier?
2) Do you think you could add anything to make your idea even better?
3) Is there any part of your invention that could be removed to make your idea even better? (maybe it is too fiddly, bulky or complicated)?
4) Show it to somebody else (either a member of your household or perhaps even over a video call). Do they think it is a good idea? Do they think anything could be improved?
Friday - By this point you should have narrowed your invention down to one final idea. Today you are going to draw a diagram of your final idea with labels to explain what each part does. Underneath your diagram please explain fully what your invention is for and, if possible, how it will work. Your invention also needs a name! Be creative :)
Remember, we enjoy seeing the work you have been getting up to so please share photos of your inventions with us at email@example.com
